The Swissvale Volunteer Fire Department is a small engine company located just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The SVFD runs two engines and a small squad unit, with about 20 firefighting members from all walks of life. The SVFD runs about 250 calls a year in the Borough of Swissvale, and other communities when requested. The Swissvale Volunteer Fire Department works together with the Borough of Swissvale Fire Department and the Rankin Volunteer Fire Department to provide emergency services in the Boroughs of Swissvale and Rankin. The SVFD also shares quarters with a medic or ambulance crew from Eastern Area pre-hospital services (EAPHS). The Swissvale Volunteer Fire Department is classified as a 501 (c) (3) organization. The Borough of Swissvale borders the City of Pittsburgh to the east, and covers an area of approximately 1.1 square miles. Swissvale has a permanent resident population of about 10,000 people. Our 1st due district has one of the highest population densities in Allegheny County, along with some of the oldest housing stock in the area. Two fire stations, a career department and the SVFD protect Swissvale. The Borough of Swissvale is primarily residential, with several commercial and industrial districts.
